What this evening is actually about

It is the one view of Las Vegas that the ground cannot give you. From about a thousand feet the Strip stops being a street and becomes a four-mile bar of light. Black desert sits on either side of it and the Luxor beam comes up through the middle. Twelve minutes is enough for that to land.

The flight leaves from a heliport near the south end of the boulevard. It runs north over Sphere, the High Roller, the Bellagio and downtown, turns over Fremont Street, and comes back south past Allegiant Stadium and Luxor. The pilot names things as they pass. Book the 8:15pm slot if you can: the lights have just come fully on.

Be clear about the shape of the booking. The listing bands itself at one to two hours and ten to twelve minutes of that is airborne. The rest is check-in, a briefing, a complimentary drink and the walk out to the aircraft. Go up expecting twelve minutes and you get exactly what you came for.

Your evening, in order

  1. Dinner, if you booked it. Pampas Brazilian Grille, reservation at 6pm, which you reach on your own.
  2. Transfer. A Mercedes Sprinter runs you from the restaurant to the heliport on the dinner package.
  3. Check in. Thirty minutes before the slot, with original photo ID and your declared weight.
  4. Board. A six-seat aircraft, seating assigned on weight and balance.
  5. The flight. Ten to twelve minutes north over the Strip, a turn over downtown, and back down the west side.
  6. Drop-off. To your hotel on the dinner package; on the flight-only fare you make your own way.

Who this suits, and who should book something else

Book this if

You are short of evenings and want the one thing that cannot be replicated from the pavement, or you are marking a birthday or an anniversary. Those two occasions come up more often here than anywhere else on the site. It also suits anyone who would rather have twelve extraordinary minutes than two ordinary hours.

Book something else if

You want length, or you are travelling with anyone who cannot produce original government photo identification. The open-top bus gives you two hours and both districts for forty dollars less. The helicopter tours page compares this flight against the three other aircraft flying the same loop.

Check availability

Next step: pick your date and see live availability, the exact departure time and travellers' own photographs of the evening.

Where it departs, and the rules that go with it

The meeting point is chosen when you book, and it is a heliport rather than a hotel. Reviewers are emphatic about one thing: allow real time to get there. One flew on a Friday with a concert in town and found both the traffic and the parking took far longer than planned. Check-in closes 30 minutes before the slot.

Hotel pick-up is not included on the flight-only fare. On the dinner package you make your own way to the restaurant by 6pm and the operator handles every leg after that, including the run home.

This one refunds at three days, not 24 hours. Every other featured evening here gives you until the day before. If your dates are not settled, the open-top bus and the club night both cancel free up to 24 hours ahead.

Questions people ask before booking this one

How long is the flight, really?

Ten to twelve minutes airborne, inside a booking the listing bands at one to two hours. The rest is check-in, a briefing and boarding. Reviewers split almost exactly along that line: the ones who knew say it was worth every minute, the ones who expected longer say it was over too fast.

Do I need identification to fly?

Yes. Every passenger aged 18 or over needs original government-issued photo ID at check-in — a driving licence or a passport. Photocopies and phone images are not accepted, and a guest without one is denied boarding with no refund.

What is the difference between the flight and the dinner package?

The dinner package adds a Brazilian churrascaria at Pampas before the flight, plus a Mercedes Sprinter from the restaurant to the heliport and a drop-off at your hotel afterwards. On the flight-only fare you reach the terminal yourself and leave the same way.

Can children fly?

From age two, in their own paid seat, with a parent or guardian. Under-17s cannot fly unaccompanied. One reviewer flew alongside an infant who cried throughout, so if quiet matters to you, this is worth knowing.

What if the weather is bad?

Wind rather than rain is what grounds these flights, and the operator reschedules or refunds. Note that the cancellation window on this listing is three days rather than 24 hours, so a marginal forecast is not something you can act on the day before.

Is there a longer flight or one with dinner at a restaurant with a view?

Yes. The club night is a different evening altogether. If you want dinner with the fountains below your window, the helicopter tours page compares this flight with the package that dines at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant first.

Other ways to spend the evening

If this one is not yours, two other featured evenings are worth a look. They are two hours on an open top deck, boarding at the High Roller; a party bus and two nightclub doors, from ten at night.

All of them, with prices and what each one covers side by side, are on Las Vegas Night Tours.
